Official
rules
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. THIS IS A SKILL-BASED CONTEST. CHANCE PLAYS NO PART IN SELECTING THE WINNER. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
1. Who runs it
The Fat Boy Remix Contest (the "Contest") is run by NRG Records ("NRG", "we", "us"), together with the artist ALRT. Contact: nrgrecs@gmail.com.
This Contest is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Instagram or Meta Platforms, Inc. It is also not sponsored, endorsed, or administered by TikTok, X, SoundCloud, Dropbox, Formspree, or any other platform.
2. The track
The Contest is for remixes of "The Fat Boy" by ALRT, released on NRG Records on May 29, 2026 as NRG041 (Original Mix) and NRG041EXT (Extended Mix). The official stems are available through a follow-to-download page at https://hypeddit.com/alrtmusic/thefatboyremixconteststems.
3. Contest period
- Opens: November 1, 2026, 12:00 AM Pacific Time (PT)
- Closes: December 13, 2026, 11:59 PM PT
- Winner announced: on or around December 20, 2026
Entries received after the deadline will not be judged. Our form's timestamp is the official clock.
4. Eligibility
You can enter if all of the following are true:
- You are 18 or older, or you are a minor with written consent from a parent or legal guardian. We may ask for that consent in writing before awarding any prize.
- You live in a country or state where this Contest is legal. The Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
- You are not an employee or contractor of NRG Records, and you are not ALRT, a contest judge, or an immediate family or household member of any of them.
- You follow both @nrgrecs and @alrtmusic on Instagram, from the Instagram account you list on the entry form, and you keep following both through judging.
- You are not subject to sanctions that would stop us from paying you or releasing your music.
5. How to enter
- Follow both @nrgrecs (https://instagram.com/nrgrecs) and @alrtmusic (https://instagram.com/alrtmusic) on Instagram.
- Unlock the official stems at https://hypeddit.com/alrtmusic/thefatboyremixconteststems (a Hypeddit follow-to-download page).
- Produce your remix of "The Fat Boy".
- Upload it as a private SoundCloud link or a Dropbox link. We must be able to stream or download it without logging in.
- Submit the link through the official entry form at https://nrgrecs.com/remix.html with your name, artist name, email, country, Instagram handle, and (optionally) other socials, tick the box confirming you follow @nrgrecs and @alrtmusic on Instagram, and tick the box agreeing to these rules.
Follow check: We may check follows at judging time. Entries from people who are not following both @nrgrecs and @alrtmusic on Instagram at judging time may be disqualified. The follow requirement exists only to enter; Instagram has no role in running or judging the Contest.
One entry per person. If you send more than one, we will judge only the first one. Collaborations are allowed, but they count as one entry for every person involved. The person who submits the entry must list all collaborators and is responsible for making sure each of them agrees to these rules. The prize (the advance and any royalties) is split between collaborators however they agree among themselves.
Entries must stay accessible until the winner is announced. If we can't open your link, your entry may not be judged.
6. Remix requirements
- Any genre is welcome: hardstyle, hard dance, techno, trance, DnB, house, anything. Energy is encouraged.
- The remix must clearly use material from the official stems and be recognizably a remix of "The Fat Boy".
- Original material only. Every other sound, sample, vocal, or loop must be either your own or properly licensed or cleared (for example, royalty-free sample packs whose license allows commercial release). No uncleared samples, interpolations, or bootleg elements. No AI voice clones of real people.
- No hateful, defamatory, or otherwise unlawful content.
- Don't release it. Do not upload your remix to Spotify, Apple Music, Beatport, Bandcamp, YouTube, or any other store or streaming service, and do not post it publicly before the winner is announced. (See section 10 for what you can do afterward.)
- If you win, you must deliver a high-quality master, 24-bit WAV, 44.1 kHz or higher, peaks at or below -1 dBTP, no clipping, plus a clean version without any DJ tags, within 14 days of being notified.
7. Judging
ALRT and the NRG Records team pick the winner. Every eligible entry is scored on four equally weighted criteria:
| Criterion | What we listen for |
|---|---|
| Creativity | A fresh take with your own identity, not a copy of the original. |
| Energy | Does it move a dancefloor? Drive, impact, euphoria. |
| Production quality | Mixdown, sound design, arrangement, and whether it's release-ready. |
| Respect for the original | The spirit and key hooks of "The Fat Boy" still come through. |
The judges' decisions are final. Follower counts, streams, likes, and how famous you are play no part. NRG backs the sound, not the numbers. If no entry meets a reasonable standard for release, we may choose not to award the prize. Because the $500 is an advance on the release, it is only paid if a winning remix is released under section 9.
8. The prize
One winner (or one winning collaboration) receives:
- A $500 USD advance on the release of the winning remix, paid by PayPal or bank transfer (Wise) within 30 days after the winner confirms eligibility, signs the NRG Records remix release agreement, and delivers the master.
- An official release of the winning remix on NRG Records, credited as "ALRT – The Fat Boy (Remixer Name Remix)", scheduled for Q1 2027, on the terms in section 9.
How the $500 advance works:
- Recoupable only from the winner's share. The advance is recouped (earned back) only from the winner's artist share (50%) of net receipts from the remix release. It is never recouped from NRG's 50% share or from any other income of the winner.
- Royalties after recoupment. Once the winner's 50% share has earned back the $500, NRG pays the winner their artist share as royalties, as set out in the release agreement.
- Non-returnable. The advance is not a loan. If the remix never earns back the $500, the winner never has to pay any of it back.
- Signing deadline. The winner must sign the NRG Records remix release agreement within 30 days of being notified. If they don't, the advance and the release may be forfeited, and NRG may choose an alternate winner (the next-highest-scoring eligible entry).
The prize can't be transferred or exchanged. You are responsible for any taxes on the prize, including the advance and any royalties. We may ask for tax paperwork before paying (for example a W-9 for US residents or a W-8BEN for non-US residents) and may withhold tax where the law requires. Bank, PayPal, or currency conversion fees are deducted from the advance.
Winner notification: We'll email the winner at the address on the entry form. The winner has 7 days to reply and 30 days from notification to sign the release agreement and return any other paperwork. If they don't, or if they turn out to be ineligible, the advance and release may be forfeited and we may pick the next-highest-scoring entry.
9. Release terms (winner)
- The winner signs the NRG Records remix release agreement (NRG's standard remix agreement). Its terms will include:
- 50/50 split. Net receipts from the winning remix are split 50% NRG Records and 50% remixer, the same as the standard NRG artist deal. "Net receipts" means income NRG actually receives from the remix after distributor fees and direct release costs, as set out in the agreement.
- Credit. The remixer is credited by artist name on all stores, streaming services, and NRG and ALRT promo.
- Exclusivity. NRG gets the exclusive worldwide right to release, distribute, and promote the winning remix for the full term of copyright.
- The underlying composition and original recording of "The Fat Boy" stay with their existing owners. The remix doesn't change that ownership or the original song's publishing.
- The $500 is an advance on the remix release. It is recoupable only from the remixer's 50% share of net receipts, royalties are paid once it has been recouped, and it never has to be paid back (see section 8).
10. Rights and licensing (all entrants)
- Stems license. The stems are licensed to you only to create a remix for this Contest. Don't share, sell, or reuse them anywhere else.
- You keep your originals. Any original elements you create yourself (your own melodies, sounds, and sound design that don't come from the stems) remain yours, and you can use them in other music.
- The remix itself can't be released elsewhere. Because it's built on ALRT and NRG's recording, you may not release, sell, distribute, or monetize your remix of "The Fat Boy" (winning or not) on any store, streaming service, or platform without NRG's written permission. Non-winning entrants may play their remix in DJ sets and, after the winner is announced, post one non-monetized stream labeled "Fat Boy Remix Contest entry".
- Promo permission. By entering, you allow NRG Records and ALRT to stream, play, and share short clips of your entry, along with your artist name and socials, to promote the Contest, without payment. This is non-exclusive.
- Your promise. You confirm that your remix is your own work (plus the official stems), that you have the rights to everything else in it, and that it doesn't infringe anyone's rights. If a third party makes a claim because of something you put in your remix, you're responsible for it.
11. Disqualification
We may disqualify any entry or entrant, at any stage (including after a win), that:
- breaks these rules, misses the deadline, or submits more than one entry;
- uses uncleared samples, someone else's work, or material you don't have rights to;
- is released, published, or posted publicly before the winner is announced;
- uses fake identities, multiple accounts, bots, or vote or engagement manipulation;
- harasses judges, staff, or other entrants;
- contains hateful, defamatory, or unlawful content; or
- can't be verified as eligible, including if the entrant is not following both @nrgrecs and @alrtmusic on Instagram at judging time.
12. Privacy
We use the information you send (name, artist name, email, country, link, socials) only to run this Contest and contact you about it. If you separately opt in, we may also send you NRG news. Form submissions are processed by Formspree. We won't sell your data. To have your data deleted after the Contest, email nrgrecs@gmail.com.
13. The fine print
- NRG may change, pause, or cancel the Contest if something outside our control (fraud, technical failure, or a legal issue) affects it. If that happens, we'll post an update and act fairly toward entrants.
- We aren't responsible for lost, late, broken, or unreadable entries or links, or for technical problems with third-party platforms.
- To the extent the law allows, entrants release NRG Records, ALRT, and the judges from liability connected to the Contest or the prize.
- These rules are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA.
- If any part of these rules turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- Winner's name: after December 20, 2026, email nrgrecs@gmail.com to ask who won.
NRG RECORDS: EVERYTHING IS ENERGY.
